Chamonix in the winter

(Simon writes:) Our clients familiar with our Tour du Mont Blanc, Walker's Haute Route and Chamonix trips might wonder what the area looks like in winter. Here it is!

Above Les Houches, this chalet sits in front of a wide view of the valley

Here is Joy O'Flanagan, one of our new leaders for 2011, above Le Tour. I met up with Joy for an afternoon's skiing in the Vallorcine / Le Tour area. Joy lives in Chamonix and will be excellent company on the TMB and other treks.

High above where the TMB trail crosses this hillside, here is the view from the top of the Cornu chairlift

Looking down on clouds: this valley is the one holding Le Fayet, the town at the end of the motorway and start of the steep climb to Les Houches and Chamonix

New Year is taken seriously in Chamonix. The square outside the casino, with the famous statue of de Saussure and Balmat surveying Mont Blanc, is rammed with people as it nears midnight. Bright colours and bobbles are a key look this season...
